Construction software in Australia: an honest comparison (2025)
BuilderTrend, Procore, Buildxact, CoConstruct, Ready Team, what each does, who it's for, and what it costs.
There are now more than 20 construction software platforms marketed to Australian builders. Here's an honest assessment of the five we're asked about most, including ourselves.
Procore
Best for: Large commercial and civil contractors. Procore is an enterprise platform designed for complex, multi-stakeholder projects with large teams and compliance-heavy environments. It's genuinely excellent at what it does. It's also priced and configured for projects measured in tens of millions. For a residential builder running $500K–$5M jobs, it's overkill and overpriced.
BuilderTrend
Best for: US-based builders. BuilderTrend is the dominant US platform and has strong feature coverage for client communication and scheduling. Its accounting integration is built around US workflows and doesn't adapt well to Australian award rates, GST, or the BAS cycle. Support is US-timezone. A workable option if you're already in their ecosystem, but not the first choice for an AU-native builder starting fresh.
Buildxact
Best for: Residential builders focused on estimating. Buildxact is Australian-built and has strong estimating and quoting functionality. It's well-suited to smaller builders who need a straightforward quoting and basic job management tool. Its live job cost tracking and accounting integration are more limited than enterprise alternatives, and it doesn't have AI agents.
CoConstruct
Best for: Custom home builders with strong client communication needs. CoConstruct (now part of Buildertrend) has good client portal and selection tracking features. Similar US-centric limitations apply.
Ready Team
Best for: Australian residential and light commercial builders who want a complete platform with AI automation. Ready Team covers the full construction lifecycle, from estimating and takeoff through to job management, billing, and accounting, with Bob and Betty handling accounts payable automatically. It's the only platform built specifically for the Australian market, with AU-native accounting integrations, AISC compliance, and support in AEST.
The honest version: if you need enterprise commercial project management, evaluate Procore. If you want an AU-built platform that covers the full lifecycle and automates the admin, Ready Team is built for you.
